A series of small-scale interventions to a home and garden that integrate dementia care into familiar surrounds – improving daily life while delaying the inevitable need to move out.
Strategy sequenced as follows:
01 – Preserve the familiarity of the existing interior, with minor adaptations to door handles, glass-fronted kitchen cabinets, walk-in shower and audio monitor
02 – Convert garage into micro-apartment for short term carer stays and occasional Grandad respite.
03 – Introduce sleeping accommodation into the garden for longer-term live-in care
04 – Maintain luscious and colourful planted garden for engaging visual and aromatic stimulation
