Delivering Triplets

We conducted an in-depth study of the local physical, historical and policy context to establish a set of parameters for developing an appropriate urban plan for the site.

We explored numerous landscape-led urban arrangements of varying densities. Each approach emphasises a different aspect of the local character – from tree-lined boulevards to village greens – arranged to create opportunities for informal neighbourly interaction outside of the private spaces on offer.

To support these studies, we designed three house ‘types’ of differing sizes: The Pinwheel, The Cottage and The Farmhouse Villa. Inspired by the local vernacular, these buildings are designed for modern living, with generous views in and out across the landscape, open-plan living and space for home-working. Layouts are generous but efficient and achieve high standards of energy performance.

The Pinwheel, named after the internal layout, is inspired by the predominant building form along Church Road between The Leacon and Warehorne, and functions either as a detached or a semi-detached residence.

The Cottage offers another interpretation of the local vernacular building type, while the Farmhouse Villa is a larger home set in more generous surrounds. It is envisaged that potential buyers may be offered some input into the final design of the Villa homes, to ensure premium elements meet their expectations.

Landscape

Extensive planting is proposed, with a range of hedgerow and tree planting to serve as both boundary treatment and visual amenity, while offsetting some of the impact of the development on the existing land.
